What if the bag you carry
actually gets better with age?

Every piece we make starts as a single hide — hand-selected, hand-cut, and hand-stitched by the same pair of hands that will sign the final product. This isn't mass production. It's a conversation between maker and material that lasts decades.

Our Story

We don't make leather goods.
We make heirlooms.

Saxony Leather Company was born from a simple frustration: everything you buy these days is designed to be replaced. Fast fashion. Fast furniture. Fast everything. We chose a different path — one that moves slowly, intentionally, and with deep respect for the material.

Based here in Wilmington, Ohio, we handcraft every bag, wallet, belt, and accessory using full-grain leather sourced from small tanneries that share our commitment to quality. Each piece is cut, stitched, and finished in our workshop by hand. No machines doing the important work. No shortcuts.

The result? Objects that develop a patina unique to you — marks that tell the story of your life, your travels, your days. A Saxony piece doesn't just age. It matures. And when you pass it on, it still has decades left to give.

The Process

How a hide becomes
something you'll carry for twenty years

01

Select

Every hide is inspected by hand — grain, thickness, character marks. Only the best make the cut. The rest become smaller goods or are returned to the tannery.

02

Pattern

Each design is drafted on paper first, then laid onto the hide with the grain in mind. Waste is minimized; integrity is maximized.

03

Cut

Sharp knives, steady hands. Every cut follows the natural grain of the leather, ensuring the final piece holds its shape through years of use.

04

Stitch

Saddle stitching — the oldest and strongest method known to leatherworkers. Two needles, one thread. If one point fails, the other holds. Machines can't replicate this.

05

Edge

Edges are burned, smoothed, and sealed by hand — dozens of passes with progressively finer abrasives until they feel like glass.

06

Finish

A final conditioning, a quality check, and the piece is ready. It arrives wrapped in brown paper with a card bearing the date it was made — and your name, if it was custom.

"I bought a wallet from Saxony three years ago. It looks better now than the day I took it home. My friends ask where I got it, and I tell them — then they tell me they'll wait because I'm not ready to give it up."
